GOTO Amsterdam 2015 holds the promise to be a unique experience. We looked at the global and local trends, we listen to the communities and we learn from the local heroes who we consider experts on a specific subject. We’ve asked these local heroes to be our trackhosts and help shape our tracks. They know who give the best talks. They know what are the most important topics. They know what the questions are, our audience will ask themselves during the projects.
Their task was not simple though. We’ve asked them to shape their track so awesome, they couldn’t stop talking about it. In this first article Pini Reznik, our trackhost for the Docker track, explains why the docker track is that awesome!
Why have a docker track at GOTO Amsterdam?
We looked at some of the big trend watchers like Gartner, Forrester, Accenture and Thoughtworks. We learned from them that Devops is a strong trend that helps enabling Webscale-IT. We also looked at how Google trends sees these (to validate the trend watchers.)

It became quite clear for us that Docker is huge! We also looked at the local Meetup groups (huge and very active) and jobs trends (Tech can be cool but you also want to work with it)

It is safe to say that Docker is is the poster-child of the devops trend on a global and a local scale. Deciding to have a track all about Docker at GOTO Amsterdam is very valid. When looking at Conferences in Europe this summer, we can safely say that our Docker track is unique and thé place to be for all Europeans.
Finding Pini
Who could be the local hero in Holland for Docker? Who is active in the communities? Who is very knowledgeable on Docker? Who does business with Docker; and thus needs to have a clear vision on Docker. We asked Pini Reznik to be our trackhost because he combines all we were looking for: (co) Organizer of Docker meetups and DockerCon Europe, CTO for Container solutions and very knowledgeable!
We asked Pini if he could tell us why he is so enthusiastic about the docker track we now have. Read his story below.
Why is Docker @ GOTO Amsterdam so Awesome?

I started playing with Docker around mid 2013, just months after it was released. At that point it was abundantly clear to me that this is exactly what software development needs to be able to cope with the growing complexity of our systems.
These days, Docker is celebrating its second anniversary and with companies such as Red Hat, Amazon, IBM, Microsoft and many others fully supporting it, I can confidently say, that two years from now Docker will be the platform of choice for many companies of various sizes for running their software in a reliable and consistent way.
The main reason that Docker became so popular was because it allowed developers to define their infrastructure in the very early stages of the development process, this making it part of the codebase together with code, build scripts, automated tests, etc..
Docker, and other tools in its ecosystem, supports many DevOps concepts such as Programmable Infrastructure and the standardization on the tooling. This allows for the creation of truly crossfunctional teams with all members speaking the same technical language.
After reading my introduction above, you probably won’t be surprised to hear that I was extremely excited when I received the invitation to be the Docker track host at one of the most important software conferences in Europe GOTO; Amsterdam.And even better, as the track host I had the privilege of influencing and giving final approval for all five talks on the track. Together with the rest of the content committee, we tried to find the best speakers to answer the most important questions that the Docker community are facing right now.
At GOTO; Amsterdam, there will be no introduction talks, so you better come prepared. In our opening talk, Container Solution’s Chief Scientist Adrian Mouat will tell us about some aspect of Docker security. Are containers secure? Can we run mission critical loads inside containers? What Docker can developers do to address existing and future vulnerabilities?
Answering these and other questions is critical to ensure the consistent adoption of Docker. Is Docker the only solution for running containers on large scale? Kelsey Hightower from CoreOS will tell us about Rocket, a new containers engine created by CoreOS and App Container Spec, a standard for defining containerized applications.

The next big challenge on the way to wider adoption is the orchestration of large and complex systems running hundreds or thousands of containers. In Google’s case, these numbers are even bigger. How do you run 2 Billion containers a week? Wojtek Tyczynski from the kubernetes project will tell us about the reasons Google have chosen to work with containers and why they decided to build kubernetes.In another talk about scaling, Benjamin Hindman from Mesosphere, creator of Apache Mesos, will explain how to automate the entire data centre using Docker as a basic building block.
All these talks will give you some good ideas about the most important challenges for container adoption, but the last session will be especially exciting. All the attendees together, with a panel of our great speakers. will try to answer the most important question what is next? Specifically, the panel will try to answer the question ‘what Docker inc. will announce in the DockerCon San Francisco?’ which is scheduled just few days after GOTO; Amsterdam. Mark Coleman, the host on this session will make sure that it will be an unforgettable experience.
